Non-existent that exists. Venice, day 2

Non-existent that exists. Venice, day 2

As the story goes… We were lucky enough to get a good hotel. Royal San Marco, as is evident from the name, is just a couple of minutes’ walk from San Marco Square and 15 minutes’ walk from Rialto Bridge – that is, within reach for everything. Rooms are rather small like in most places here; some tourists laugh that prison cells in the Palace of Doges are bigger than their temporary dwellings in Venice. However, we felt comfortable enough there.

Finding a whatever-language-speaking guide for a sightseeing tour was not a challenge either. A guy at the reception desk thanked god it’s off season yet and in a few hours an appointment for 9.00 the next morning was set.  By the way, the time difference between Italy and Finland is 1 hour. 9 am Italian time is 8 am Finnish time.

To those who are going to Venice for the first time I’d recommend to follow our schedule: San Marco Square (Cathedral & Palace) on day 1 of stay, and then just grab your camera and go explore the city on foot and on board the vaporone. The pictures you get will make you happy. The general feeling about Venice is “no, it’s impossible, such a thing cannot exist” every step and every place you go. Still, it exists and evidence will follow…

A typical street in Venice that you cannot walk. Sail, anyone?

This one is made for walking 🙂

The most expensive place in town. In between the Square and Rialto Bridge, prices go down to the Finnish level. True for restaurants, too.

According to the rules, all gondolas have to be black. However, smart gondoliers use every trick to make their own beautiful, special and different from others.
