Foooooood… Venice, day 3

Foooooood... Venice, day 3

No one would agree to eat impressions only, right? 🙂

There’s no need to, either, since we are in Italy, the land of prosciutto, parmiggiano, variety of pastas, and Her Majesty Pizza. But not only… When in Venice, there is all reason to try the Venetian fish soup consisting of all available kinds of seafood, 2-3 kinds of white fish, and very little tasty herb-and-tomato stock.

Here it is as offered in a restaurant by Rialto Bridge:

You thought you were an expert in seafood prior to the Venice trip. Haha. The very first Venetian waiter will prove that you know nothing about that. 5 different kinds of mussels are sold. Five! Fish breeds are so many I still cannot memorize them all.

Next best to parmiggiano is gorgonzola, delicious veined blue cheese. You can order it as a starter or for dessert accompanied with some sweet/sour sauce:

Pizza is pizza, and pizza is the queen 🙂 Already in Rome a couple of years ago I noticed that Italians make a somewhat harder crust than Finns. But in Rome there would be very little topping over the crust, while in Venice and further south the stuffing is plentiful.

When it was too hot to eat anything essential I dropped at Supermercato and picked up some berries for lunch:

Italian coffee vs. Finnish “brown water” (© a Spanish colleague), the first always wins.

Something else to drink? Voila. The conventional grappa (tastes a bit like Russian homemade vodka, or samogon) and an army of limoncino-limoncello-limoncitos that are in fact trick-22 for tourists. These are easy to make and differ very little from plain vodka and lemon juice mixture – but smart advertising and aggressive placement in restaurants have made them a phenomenon 😀

I’m just now realized, looking to the last photo…
We forged to purchase italian pasta!!! We were too much afraid about overweight in the airport, dumb…

Well, i hope limonchello can fix that for some time 😛

  • Yep, we were probably a little obsessed with the risk of overweight 🙂
