What’s new in Finland and in Vaasa

What's new in Finland and in Vaasa

Hesari wrote today that the traditional Independence day gala reception at the President’s Palace (Presidentinlinna in Finnish) might be cancelled due to the risk of swine flu propagation 🙁

That’s a real pity because for many Finns Linnan juhlat is something that goes without saying, that is, comes on December, 6, every year. Just like Christmas. Some do not watch it on TV, others do – fun looking at the ladies’ outfits and how male guests shake hands with the President.

Last year’s most discussed dress was that of Finland’s young pop star Anna Abreu, fresh yellow with delicated black and white details.

Looks like candy to me 🙂 Yum!

And the most talked-of male guest was the Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen that had finally given up his personal cook and took his new girlfriend Sirkka Mertala along to the President’s great party 😉

Naval blue rulez 🙂

If the reception is cancelled, it will mean at least that the vaccination campaign has failed and more – that we have lost to swine flu. Logical, understandable… but sad.

Let’s hope that other due events will follow as per the schedule. The highest priority is, of course Xmas opening festivals held annually in different cities & towns of Finland. This is quite a big thing, crowds of people enjoying winter, glögi, gingerbread, shopping, and various performances in the market squares.

You will find the program for the Xmas opening festival in Vaasa & other remarkable events under the following link
